Slovenia is moving with rapid steps towards the massive adoption of cryptocurrencies. Recently, local media announced a crypto payment trial within the capital’s main shopping center.
BTC City Ljubljana, located in the city with the same name, is starting a cryptocurrency payment pilot project. Thus, 150 buyers of the center will be able to pay for purchases in cryptocurrencies within more than 500 shops. The products that can be bought are starting with the category of clothing and ending with electronics, reported Slovenian TV channel “24 Ur” on 11th June.
Try not to correlate Bitcoin (BTC) with the title of one of the largest shopping complexes in Europe. The center was founded in 1950 and named Blagovno Transportni Center or abbreviated- BTC.
As previously reported by media, Slovenia has been remarked as a crypto-friendly destination. Towards the beginning of Q1 of 2018, the shopping center has teamed up with Eligma, a startup company to allow crypto-based transactions via Elipay app.
Having over 500 stores, BTC City Ljubljana is set to become the world’s largest hub to accept crypto assets as payments. Slovenia continues to invest in its future, wishing to establish a “Bitcoin City” as soon as possible. The project received praise from the ministry Miro Cerar and the secretary of state Tadej Slapnik who made a visit to Ljubljana in the past days.
